What is kendang made of?
Good kendang instruments are said to be made of jackfruit, coconut, or cempedak wood. The bam (inferior surface that emits low-pitch beats) is frequently made of buffalo hide, while the chang is made of soft goatskin (superior surface which emits high-pitch beats).

The gendang indung is a two-headed membranophone used by the Sundanese of Java, Indonesia. It is the largest of the hand drums found in Sundanese gamelan sets. In Sundanese, 'indung' means'mother,' and 'gendang' means 'drum.'
How does the kendang look?
A gamelan usually has three to four Kendangs. These drums come in a variety of sizes, but they all have the same barrel shape. Each drum's head is covered with a skin, usually from a goat or a buffalo. Each drum has two different head sizes, one larger than the other.
What kind of sound does kendang make?
Membranophone: a musical instrument whose sound is produced by the vibration of a stretched skin. Kendang drums are tuned and played in pairs, with the "female drum" (kendang wadon) in front and the "male drum" (kendang lanang) in back.
